I'm a spray-aholic, and how did I not know about this...
I saw it on the Nate Berkus Show the other day.
see all the shiny stuff on the wall?
it used to be regular glass and they sprayed the backside with this...
And boom. magic. It looks like mirror. You can do vases, glass plates and trays, glass lamp bases to look like mercury glass/mirror.
At first I thought, great, I can spray my furniture to look like mirror... but no. Only glass. It makes the unsprayed side all shiny and lovely, and the back not so much.
Still pretty cool. Feels good to get out from under my rock, because I'm sure this stuff has been around for a while.
So here are some examples of stuff you can make...
Time to get spraying.
You can mirror furniture a lot cheaper by buying regular glass and spraying it in this!!!!! We all know mirror is not cheap. How can we give this a antique look though????
ReplyDeleteI saw that on the Nate Show too and loved that idea. I'm also a spray paint queen... it's kind of a problem :)
ReplyDeleteWow! I always see this on the shelves, but never gave it much thought! time to spray paint my box of bottles! I hope you find the time to do the tortoise shell paint tutorial, been holding out on painting my nightstand...thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteI MUST FIND SOMETHING TO USE THIS ON ASAP!

How cool! However, as an intermediate spray painted I must ask how in the world someone evenly sprayed the inside of a bottle if the paint can only be applied to the backside of glass. Am I missing something??
ReplyDeleteWow! I had nooo idea about this! Now I'm itching to try it!
ReplyDeleteI just saw this yesterday as well and I was all....UMMMMM???? Where have you been all my spray painting life?????
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to use it!
I think I saw this on design sponge a while back and was quite intrigued. I always see cool old windows but they just wouldn't look right with my decor but with this handy stuff they would!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea at all!! I was just looking at Krylon and did not even see it! That mirror above the fireplace is fabulous!

Where can you find this stuff? I'm in the Boston area... I saw a similar projaect where they sprayed a piece of glass with metallic silver spray paint then sprayed it with a bronze paint then dripped nail polish with acetone to create an antique mirror look. I tried it but the silver wasn't shiny enough. this stuff would work great.

Andrea,
ReplyDeleteI have been going mad trying to find it too. The site says HomeDepot, Ace, True Value as well as all the big craft stores (which i thought would be a better bet since this is more of a craft paint) carry Krylon. When I searched the products online I didn't see it. Maybe its newer so they haven't listed it . I'll stop into Ac moore next time I hit my Target and check. If anyone has found this please let me know where.
Oh, great tip! I'm definitely going to have to try this. Would love to do it on a French door!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! How did I miss this episode? Thanks for sharing.
