I found this brass floral pendant a ways back and was going to sell it but after cleaning it up and hanging it to photograph I kinda fell in love. This is a big problem.
I read Sissy's post the other day about separation anxiety and selling her stuff, and I totally have it bad. I pick things up to fix up and resell, and when I bring it home I want to keep it. I feel like a design hoarder. Could you imagine me with stray animals? Hello cat lady.
But just look at it, LOOK AT IT...
In all of my lighting obsessed days I've never seen such a light. All the little petals are so pretty.
(I know. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My husband doesn't have the same eye as me,
he thinks its gross.) Its so happy here.
How do you get over this disease? I feel like I want to have a warehouse full of cool crap at my disposal so I can rearrange at whim. I'm so screwed. Ugh. I would die if I had an actual store. My mother did, and was always redecorating our house with new merchandise. Ha! Maybe thats who I inherited this from. Thanks Mom.
Oh, and this piece doesn't seem to want to come off my fireplace wall either.
Help. Anyone else with issues?
I keep a large clear box of all my decorating items that I can't seem to part with. It's filled with all sorts of things that I like to rotate in and out of my house. I'm definitely a design hoarder!
ReplyDeleteAmen, sister. I have a hard time getting rid of things for a spell, and then I have the sudden itch to get rid of everything...bizarre, right? But, that light is gorgeous. I love the floral detail. I'd keep that one if I were you!
ReplyDeleteI have just started this hoarding lark. Just brought home some stuff today and had to clean it immediately as I have a 2 bed apartment and no space to store this stuff. Also a bit of a lack of space for working on anything but I can't help myself!
ReplyDeleteI live with them a bit until I find something better then get rid of it. BUT that light and sculpture are f*cking awesome, don't you dare get rid of them! The light looks pretty there.
ReplyDeleteI dont think I would want to let that light go either. I love it ! And it looks great in your room.

Usually my lack of funds helps to keep this crazy side of me in check haha! I worry about my future self though, control is fleeting! Love that sculpture, it BELONGS there!
ReplyDeleteLove the lamp!!! I wouldn't let go of it either!
ReplyDeleteOh sister, you are on your own. Every time I want to go and pick something new up, the hubby says...now is this to sell? Or, is this for you. I say "to sell, of course," but, then the guilty look on my face usually tips him off. I'm hopeless.
ReplyDeleteBut, that being said....TOTALLY keep it!
I'm actually a purger! But then I want something and it turns out I got rid of it. I will say, though, that lately it is all I can do not to bring strays home. Decorater remnants at the fabric store, great lamps on clearance at home goods, craigslist finds. I think "oh, I'll use this in a project," but I know what will happen: my basement will be taken over and then there will be the trouble of selling it all.
ReplyDeleteMy advice: don't bring it home in the first place!
Oh, and that lamp might look amazing in my girls' room.....you know, if you decide to sell it.

HA!! So true...I am also guilty of being a design hoarder. But I am also a design procrastinator - I have so many ideas but I procrastinate putting my plans into action.
ReplyDeleteYour pendant looks perfect in that little corner. Speaking of that corner, where is the fabric from of your blue ikat curtains?
Wish I could help you but that would be like the blind leading the blind...but keep that pendant! We can work on our problem better with a little light....
ReplyDeleteHolly,
ReplyDeleteThanks! Its a Donald Kaufman. I'm actually selling my leftovers, I think I have 3 or 4 yds left and its $15 a yd if you're interested.
They're both such unique, awesome pieces! For sure keepers! I've heard if you just buy what you love, you'll find a place for it someday in your home. I guess the problem is waiting for the someday:)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - I have the same disorder too! When buying for a client it's like "one for you and maybe I should have one too". I fall in love with so many pieces and find myself redesigning my home to incorporate these things! Not good!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a chronic symptom of the design-obsessed. Bri and I finally just got an antique booth to feed our habit, but it is SO hard to part with certain things. I love both of these, so I would keep them too. Very unique!
ReplyDeleteAnd as for that Donald Kaufman fabric, if Holly doesn't want it, I call dibs. I think it would look great in my daughter's room!
Amen...my only fear is I'll end up with a warehouse full of stuff I can't sell. But there's just sooo many beautiful things!! I love your pretty petal lamp...(your husband will get over it..hahaha)
ReplyDelete@ Danika - Thank you I'd love to take you up on the offer but I'm going to pass. @ My Interior Life - it's all yours!
