The Common Thread

The following rooms are some of my favorites. I noticed when I placed them together they all had a common thread. Big bold art. The styles are all quite different, and they each have different elements I appreciate, but its the art I realized that draws me into the spaces.

I love the quirky vibe of Vintage Renewals shop, The Loft.  There is a lot going on, but the large piece of art pulls it all together. (And is that a hanging television on the right?)
This space is chic and glam, and I am dying over their table choices. It is quite neutral, but the pops of color from the artwork add energy and excitement...
Here lack of color is not an issue.  The bold piece emphasizes this and actually makes the bright sofas and color seem tamer...

I examined my own walls and  I realized I have a large piece here and there, but mostly gallery walls made up of lots of small pieces and signage.  I would love to find one giant painting that centers and grounds the room.  How about you? Are you big and bold or mostly gallery?

  2. I am love with very large art. Nothing makes a bolder statement or grounds the eye. Unfortunately a lot of it is cost prohibitive. Loved what you posted!

  3. I have an oil painting I have been working on forever. It's massive and initially I was going for an abstract floral, but I think that is what is holding me back as I'm just not feelin' in. So recently I decided to go full on abstract, but again I have around 50 other art projects that I have started and need to finish. I think I have a problem and wish there was a support group or something. Hi my name is Danielle and I can't seem to finish my projects. Group: We understand Danielle. How has this affected your home? Me: My basement looks like a warehouse with tons of unfinished furniture and art. It is supposed to me my son's play room. Group: Hmmm...can't we come take a look?

  5. I love large art. But then again a gallery wall is so nice. I'm trying to find a good balance in my home. We'll see how it goes!

  6. I'm the opposite... I have a few large paintings, but gallery walls are so daunting to me! Hoping to get one up soon, to balance out the bigger pieces.

  12. I have a mix but it's the big pieces I love, and I'm lusting after more. I just bought a large and very very colourful piece over the innernet and it's so gorgeous I want to EAT it. Most probably, though, I'll hang it on a wall.

    Hope your cold has gone.

  13. I'm terrified of gallery walls. I tried one and it was disastrous and now I'm afraid. I have several really large pieces and they're going to have to work.

  14. You should paint one for your walls!! You MUST!! I have nor rules for art. Just have to love it. Have to admit I still have the old portrait gallery from 17th century going up my staircase. Something I always loved in all my houses. My ex said it looks like a funeral parlor. But I love it.It's quirky in a modern house.
