Shtuff.

Yes that is a lame title for a post.  I'm a bit fried... Sick kid, day 3. Last week was school vacation week. So I am batting 1 day of freedom in the last 2 weeks. Mom's a little crazed and very hut happy.
And its slushing out.

So lets take some visual prozac, OK?

I found some goodness over at  The Zhush this morning that brightened my day.

This space from the latest House Be-a-u-tiful got my knickers in a twist.
  Seriously, go see it. NOW.

Great color.
Grat Drama.

But before you do lets talk (again) about that Jean de Merry Lumiere fixture.
That light is haunting me.
Need to a) sell my first born to get one or b) figure out how to craft one.

Montage much?
Bergdorf Goodman by Kelly Wearstler

and now lets look at sconce form...

Yes, you could poke your eye out on it, but it would be worth it.
Maybe not, but you know what I mean.

UPDATE: My Mom was changing out some light fixtures. When she took the glass bowl off one she had this under it...
I think I found my muse to jam a million brass spikes into!
Give me a couple weeks. I might need to learn how to weld.
(Dad, you will have to get out your blow torch. Family bonding time!)

Here is to hoping for healthy kids tomorrow.

???? and the traveling art/lamps

I'm stuck folks.  I have been sporadically painting and rearranging between working and the kids being home all week. Spring fever. I started a stencil in my bathroom earlier this week that I have yet to finish because as soon as I started I saw the Designers Guild crazy gorgeous Madame Butterfly paper from my last post and can really see that in here with a white linen roman and banding. Run on sentence, sorry.

Here is the space...

+ this maybe

Should I attempt to paint something like the above??????

I had originally wanted to get some yardage to do some pillows in my living room, but now I just don't know.  This is where I hate design and the prettiness overload on my brain.
MAJOR BRAIN CRAMP!!!
So for now the bathroom is dormant.

SO in other areas, we had the house reappraised yesterday to do a re-fi since we decided to stay in "el rancho".  Let me tell you, there is nothing like an appraisal to get your ass in gear and your house spotless. I spent all yesterday cleaning, rearranging, etc.  In the process I found some old treasures.

My Genie Lamps came up from the basement and into my bedroom...

I had forgotten all about a pair of pretty crystal candlesticks I had too. Need shades.

I am ALMOST done with the family room!

I moved some art around.
"Big Pink" came out of my office and over the fireplace, the black round mirror moved to the entry...

(hello, pig butt)

I still need to schnazzle up the bar a bit...

and my lotus candle holders I got from Sissy's Blue Hudrangea Bazaar now have a place on the buffet...

and that is all I can show you because my camera died.

So tell me now, do I paint craziness in the bath or go the safe and geometric route?
My weekend is in your hands.

Golden Inspiration

I'm currently obsessed with this Kenneth Jay Lane necklace...
And as I discovered in the past, jewerly is one of my biggest design inspirations.
This is making me want to create a light fixture covered in gold circles.
A drapey layered number.
 I searched for more inspiration...

I tried to find a fixture that already exists, because honestly this summer weather has me completely lazy and wanting to be at the beach, not painting and DIYing. Thank god for New England's brutal winters to make me hut happy and productive. I saw this gold capiz number...

Not loving the sqaures so much, so now I am contemplating
painting or gold leafing some shells of my own and stringing them up.  So, if we get a rainy streak this might happen.
Anybody else find their DIY mojo a little lackluster this summer?

Meet my new addition, the "Ice Queen"...

I took a work break today to try to get something off my "home" to do list.  I decided I would install my new chandy I found a few weeks ago at a thrift store. It just came back a few days ago from being rewired. (I know I'm busy when I don't immediately hang something the second I bring it home.)
So meet the Ice Queen...
All those lucite prisms make her one heavy girl.

I switched her out because although I loved my old lucite spaghetti pendant, when I added some leaves to my table and made it bigger it got lost. (I'm working on new seating for the wall side, currently I threw a bench there but am designing a built in.)
See... excuse the mess, I was doing my best just remembering to get a before shot.
The new chandy is an oval, so it balances it nicely.
And I love the extra sparkle it adds to the space.

One more thing off the list. Now if I could only decide on a color to paint the kitchen, although I really don't mind the white.

Metal Lamp Shades and the Uberbrassariffication

I've been on the hunt for some black metal lamp shades like the above. I have some lamps that I think would look great with them. While searching I found some others I was loving.
this light is rad
from here

These pendants...

I actually have a vintage brass drum shade.  It got me thinking about it again and all the crap I want to do with it...
I'd actually like to hang it over my kitchen table.
(i wish I could change light fixtures like underwear)

Chic child head gear for my rambunctious little one...

But then I remembered an old brass lamp base I had, and decided to marry the two together into
UBER-BRASS naughtiness!
And I really like!
Its almost kind of like a lamp sculpture.

What do you think?
Diggity or does is look like br-ass.

Crazy or Cool Stumblings

While looking for sources for bad ass rag rugs I stumbled upon this light from Art Broker Designs and was intrigued and frightened at the same time. It kind of looks like a giant spider or something that would probe you on  a space ship, but I respect its ingenuity...
Wanted to share.  Leaning toward crazy because I'm an arachnophobe. Maybe if it was in a different happier color.  How bout you, crazy or cool?

Now back to my stumbling. What I was looking for were these...

Tejo Remy/Rene Veenhuizen rugs made from recycled wool blankets.
Cool, no?
I was working on the boy's room and was trying to figure a rug solution, then I remembered these.

I saw them on Apartment Therapy a ways ago, under a post for rugs you can make.  I bookmarked it to go back to one day, and that day was this weekend.

One problem.  I can't find any instructions. Or maybe I did, but they are not in English.
All I know is they use old wool blankets (in strips), but I'm trying to figure out how they stick them together. Any thoughts? Anyone ever make anything like this? Know where I can buy one without refinancing?

They would probably take forever to make, but I think they'd look so good in a kids room. They would also look killer framed as art. Thoughts or help?

Have Ya Seen This???

Hey everyone, I want to introduce you to new blogger Hallie from Small But Mighty Interiors. She contacted me to show me the great job she did on her faux malachite table. (PS- I love seeing your projects, it makes my day!) Well, I checked out her blog and  I was super excited to see this
DIY she did.

Hallie fell in love with this lamp...
seriously who wouldn't?!
Well, she took her love to a whole new level and did something about it.
She made her very own ostrich lamp...

See....

Amazing, right?
She has a detailed DIY here and used the drabs (darker feathers) to do hers.
Go check it out and say hello and see what else she is up to!

Web stumbling...

Wow. I am in love with this sunny chandy.
Thank you Twitter for leading me to this lovely image . I wound up on the site for 30A Style Book on accident, but it was quite a happy accident because its loaded with gorgeous images of beach homes along Route 30A on the Florida Panhandle.
They just released a book full of these homes...
Click here to see more. Makes me want a Gulf Coast vacation real bad.
