oh the agony and the ecstacy

*Update:I just want to clarify to anyone who read this and thought I ripped a SOLD tag off that I didn't, nor would I ever.
I ripped the PRICE tag off to bring to the register, it wasn't sold or even on hold yet.
I tossed and turned all night dreaming about that Pagoda bedroom set from Salvation Army. It was torture. I had to go back to Sal's this afternoon to pick up a sideboard I purchased the day before. Part of me was hoping it was gone so I wouldn't have to look at it, another part just wanted to see it one more time.

My husband called as I entered the store, and I told him I was stalking furniture. Then he said the magic words "If you really like it that much just buy it." Wha-Whattt?! Ok. If it was still there I would take it home, clean it, pat it, tell it what a good pagoda set it was daily...if. It was now after 1:00. They had been open for hours, someone must have called, came in by now.

I quickly walked through the store towards the front, heart racing, there it was... but will there be a SOLD tag on it.? Nope. I ripped the for sale ticket off and went to the check out. My hands were shaking, I could barely sign the slip and write my name. Shaking. The clerk must have thought I was on something. I was. Vintage Thomasville Pagoda Bedroom set. I'm sorry to anyone that wanted it and didn't get it, I really am. I honestly didn't expect it to still be available or to have a verbal OK from my husband to load up the house with
 a(nother) giant load of furniture.

Ahhh so happy for you! Can't wait to see what you do with it. And when you're done with your pagoda set you can pass it on over to me :)

If I'd walked into some shop and seen that (except that in Australia you never see such things in shops), I'd have HAD to have it too. Would have chucked out the present bed to make room for it even. You did the right thing. And thank gawd for your hub, and synchronously timed phone calls.

I've had that same heart-racing feeling and this was truly meant to be yours! What a find! :)

I have to say- that's kinda annoying of you to rip the Sold tag off and buy it anyways. I feel bad for that person.

Anonymous-
There wasn't a sold tag on it. I was just saying "will there be a sold tag on it" and I meant No, there wasn't. I wouldn't do that, nor would they sell a piece that was already sold.
It was still for sale when I got there.
( I will re- word my post)

So super psyched for you and this find! I know in your hands this set will have a whole new, much more fabulous life. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Aside: I find it really annoying that people conveniently sign in as "anonymous" when they have something snarky to say.

But regardless...still excited about your find :)

YAY!!!!
I'm so glad you got it.
And I so totally and completely know that heart-racing, shaking hands feeling. It's a sickness, my friend. And I'm glad I'm not the only one infected.

It was totally meant to be!!!! I would have snatched those pieces up and paid the price later with my man. I really think we need to start a support group for people with this problem...my basement is packed man. Do I have time to refinish it all? I will somehow make time...
And seriously awesome find..so glad you went back and your boys are soooo cute! I wonder if they think you are as crazy as my son thinks I am sometimes.

Just spotted the matching armoire at a local thrift store. Been thinking and thinking that if I only had a place . . . found you and this post in my research of the piece. Know anything??

Dana,
I found parts of this set on Circa Who and 1st Dibs for rediculous $$. All I know is that they are vintage Thomasville, did a lot of google and stil didn't turn up much. I say buy it! A blogger friend actually bought the armoire from this set. You might want to ask her if she found anything out about the piece. Her blog is Estate Eclectic and is on my side bar of blogs. Keep me posted!
